NerdVsWorld

NerdVsWorld is a podcast from two thirtysomething nerds from Oxford: Brendan and Spindles. It was born out of the amalgamation of Brendan's NerdVsWorld youtube show and Si and Ady's Eclectic Technicolour Podcast of Awesome.

Every fortnight the lads tackle the latest news in Film, TV, Comics, Gadgets, Nerd Culture and more.

As well as this we also have special guests on the show in the form of various authors, actors and musicians. So far there have been appearances from the likes of Robert Rankin, Jonathan Green, Emma Newman, Megan Hayes, Professor Elemental and Bitter Ruin to name but a few.

New episodes are released fortnightly on Fridays and you can find the latest episodes of NerdVsWorld below, or you can also:

On this week's show, Brendan, Spindles and Ady chew over the thorny issue that is this year's Hugo nominations. For those of you that are unaware of the controversy around this year's awards, we give a brief run down of what has transpired and mull over what can be done about it in both the short and long term.

We also report back on this year's Eastercon, highlight some current kickstarter campaigns in Crowdfunder Corner and chat over what we are looking forward to in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Oxgoth on his winning entry to our Warcraft competition, your prize is winging it's way to you as we speak. Our next show will bear the winning title of Invasion of the Nerd Snatchers.

We recently had the pleasure of talking to the delightful Sophie Aldred and the Seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy at this year's Sci Fi Weekender.

We talk about how Sophie came to play the iconic role of Ace, her thoughts on a slightly darker doctor, and a truly impressive Ace/Tree Fu Tom mash up.

Sylvester gives an insight into his unique style of convention Q&A's, his influence on the direction of Doctor Who, The Five-Ish Doctors reboot and also commits his 5 films to our list.

This week, Spindles, Ady, Brendan and Emma give reactions to Guardians of the Galaxy, recent Marvel News, Upcoming Doctor Who, out and about at events over the summer, the devastating news about Robin Williams and more.

I will warn you in advance that the last 15 - 20 minutes of this show get very heavy indeed. In the week that Robin Williams lost his fight against depression, it was bound to happen that we would end up talking about it from our perspective. All of us suffer from depression and have done for a very long time. If hearing about this sort of thing first hand is a problem, then I would recommend you leave the cast at the point we start talking about Robin Williams.

More than an hour of the show is exactly what you've come to expect, but there is a long pause before we begin the discussion as the final point of the show should you wish to avoid it. We'll be back next time with our usual mix of beligerence and stupidity, but we've all been hit hard by this and couldn't see any way around talking about it.

To continue the serious side of this show, if you do suffer from depression and do need someone to talk to, if you have no-one else you feel comfortable talking to then please do try getting in touch with MIND. They are a mental health charity who can provide advice and support to anyone experiencing mental health issues. http://www.mind.org.uk/
